However, if I dressed up in an NFL jersey and went to an event to buy sports memorabilia and get an autograph of a player, that would be cool. OTOH if I dressed up in a Star Trek uniform and went to an event to buy trek memorabilia and get an autograph of an actor, I would be a loser.
I read a book recently that made a very similar point....

He was sort of cute. And we were sort of being set up. And in the course of the "getting to know you" chattage he decided I was insane even though he was the one who would talk about his alumni hockey team FOREVER with anyone in hearing.

It may be the degree of devotion as well. If I were able to recite important statistics for every current NFL player (or every player who'd played for my favorite team during the past 50 years), most people would think I'd gone a bit overboard.
Yes, there are baseball geeks(My fake newsguy boyfriend is totally one) There is nothing that happened on any diamond, anywhere, that he won't take an interest in. Which leads me to know, despite total lack of sportliness, that Honus Wagner is the most Expensive Baseball Card In The Woorld! Susan, do you watch "Countdown"! You should. Really. Sorry...couldn't resist. The fact that he can also do that for Lincoln--Douglass is an attractive bonus.

You'd like it. And, luckily, he's not striking. Or in a few months, I'd be crazier than I am.ETA: It's funny how often he will bring some political issue back to some story about Ty Cobb. If I didn't fancy him, I'd probably be annoyed about that, actually. But as it is, I'm kind of like "One of us! One of us!" And for a single guy, he knows shitloads about Harry Potter, too.
So what are people doing this weekend?
