Is that something my local liqueur or grocery store would have, or is that a trip to BevMo?
Suzi, your local grocery should have Ravenswood. If not, any red zinfandel or shiraz by Cline is a good one. They have a $10-ish zinfandel which is really good.
t edit
If you feel like being saucy, get him a bottle of Fat Bastard -- any of their reds (Merlot, Zinfandel, Cabernet) are good, and moderately priced.
Suzi you could probably find Ravenswood at your local grocery store. If you do end up at BevMo they're usually very helpful in picking stuff out.
I not only have a Trader Joe's nearby, but that is where my daughter works. Duh, didn't think of that one.
Thanks for the suggestions! I'll brave the stores later today and see what I find. Really, I just need a bottle for the wine bottle cover I made him, but I figure giving an empty bottle wouldn't be nice.

Uh, no offense to o_a or to TJs, but....don't get your dad 2-buck chuck for Christmas. Seriously.
I accidentally bought California cheese today. Usually I think I'm a cheese snob when I make sure my domestic stuff comes from Wisconsin or a neighboring state but as soon as I bit into this stuff I sensed something was wrong. I wonder why there's such a big difference. Does cheese have terroir?
I seem to have purchased a car. I'm waiting for the dealer to finish detailing it now.
Sonus, I remember the Great Ice Storm of Ought Two. It was awful.
Ya know, the worst part of the Ice Storm wasn't so much the lousy driving conditions... It was more the lack of electricity in my apartment for nigh onto a week. Especially because no AC meant no heat.
On the flip-side, some of my friends shot some amazing photos of the ice on the trees. They were beautiful!!

I was just looking thorugh my Mom's Chicago '79 photos. Really amazing, entire trees wrapped in ice.
I seem to have purchased a car.
Congratulations! The one you were looking at yesterday?

It is essentially the same car. A Mercedes C230. The one that I drove yesterday didn't have the navigation system but they sent one up from the LAX store and I drove it today and bought it.
Does cheese have terroir?
Absolutely.
I'm an apple snob--I only eat certain varieties, usually the hard to find ones.
