[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I have a few toys that I hide before friends come over too.

Do they get into your beer bong or what?

Thrive to spite them

Timelies.

Parts of my town are in a uproar today, earlier this week the winning coach of a private Christian school was fired. Not only is he a winning high school football coach, but he played college ball here and was very popular and very successful. The paper did a Then and Now thing about his family (he was married and had a young daughter when he played football here and now she goes to the same school and plays volleyball) not too long ago.

There are letters to the editors and protests planned and people trying to figure out why he was fired just a couple weeks before Christmas and during a very successful season. The Pastor of the church/head of the school has only given the reason "it's God's Will". This is not going down well with anyone and the school is refusing (so far) to go into details. Like -- was he cheating?allowing students to cheat? breaking any kind of rule?

The coach claims he has no idea why he was fired.

Parents are threatening to pull their kids out of the school, students are protesting at the school, it's all very weird.

Mostly lurking...

He didn't have to share that toy because it helped him cope.

I do something similar with my Sunday School kids...more because it's what one of them needs, and the other two (or sometimes three) just go with it.

I'm so bummed. I'm not going to be able to make it to OH this weekend. I so wanted to be there, but weather and health are making it impossible. I'm trying to think of this as God's way of keeping me out of some horrible car accident or something, but it's still very disappointing.

Oh, dear, askye. That sounds a bit too much like what's going on at our church right now. Oh, dear.

Our wings are not tired.

Do they get into your beer bong or what?

Hee. Don't I wish. I think I should go into a big old age crazy phase when the boys go off and become a stoner.

Wow askye, that is odd. There is clearly more to the story here.

Thrive to spite them

It's all very odd and from reading the various comments to articles on the paper's website it's going to get very ugy.

Now tagless for your comfort.

I was upstairs picking out clothes for the kids and brushing my teeth and I heard a ruckus in the playroom. I ran downstairs to find the kids had pulled the ancient, tube television (17 years old, 19-inch screen) off the stand and onto the ground. It pulled the cable input plug completely out of the back of the television. Thankfully, neither of the kids were injured (the tv's pretty heavy) and the housing or the screen didn't crack or break but I'm doubtful of it ever working again.

No way we're making our gym appointment today.

We were planning on replacing that set in the near future--and that future just got nearer, considering we got Owen a video game system for the playroom and that was our only extra television.

vw, I'm sorry you won't be making it. The weather is holding here and I hope it doesn't cause any further cancellations. I need to get away from my uber-destructive toddlers.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Sounds like she just doesn't like to make her kid scream. That's just part of the job. I'm usually embarrassed when my kids throw fits at other people's houses, but I wouldn't fail to take something away from them and use the opportunity to practice learning to share. It sucks, but it's not like other parents haven't heard kids scream before. Everyone gets over it pretty quickly.

I (who am not a parent at all, mind you) might 'fess up -- "he'll start screaming. Its something we're working on but I really don't want to deal with that right now in someone elses house."

Honestly, if someone said that to me I (who am not a parent) would probably go along with it.

But the whole "gee, just can't displease my kid" thing? Grrrrrrr

S and I are about to drive up to San Francisco for a few days, mostly to do Christmas-like with family. We've rented a Dodge Charger with 2000 miles on it (thank you, double upgrade coupon).

But we'll be there until at least Monday, so if any SF-istas want to do something possibly Sunday or Monday, e me or something. No promises, on exactly when we'll be free, but we'll probably have a minute or two at some point over the weekend.

It's nice to see some brave pretenders trying to make it interesting.

Fay, if it's any consolation I almost caused a potential 4 lane accident yesterday. I don't even know what really happened, but I think I ran a red light. I manged to not hit or get hit by anyone, but it was close.

Meanwhile, I continue to be irritated by jackhole in my office. But it makes for some amusing jokes with the other guy at jackhole's expense.

Askye, that sounds really odd. Wonder what he did.

Stephanie, I am just boggled by the other parent.

omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

sean, safe travels. Hope this trip is better than the last.

Askye, very curious, do keep us up to date on that one. "Gods Will" reminds me of the Elder in Firefly "Safe" saying its ok to burn River.

And tomorrow night is ND & my XXXmas party.
:( Still don't have a costume. I have an idea, but not sure if it will be received as vv funny or vv lame.

Fay, um. If your having so much Visa problems, why not apply for a Master Card or something? :: ducks from gasoline haphazardly tossed on flames :: Seriously, you are handling it very adult like, quit kicking yourself. If you were wailing about the office screaming "I WANT MY VISA" or some such, and you explained to the immigration dude "what? I never outgrew my "tantrum phase"... THEN you could say your not an adult.

OK, hope that made sense. Seems last night I closed a bar. I didn't drink nothing but a coke. But had a VERY interesting debate/discussion with a co-worker whom I didn't think was that deep of a thinker. Rather pleasantly surprised. Anyhow, stayed a LOT longer than I had planned, drank a LOT more coke than I had planned, which resulted in head dancing about on pillow keeping me from sleeping a LOT longer than I had wanted. As such, I am a LOT later for work than I had planned (o ya, and reading bitches, so that's not helping).

ps: MM, loved the writing yesterday. more more more! ENCORE!
