Carol of the Bells is the one my sister and I usually end up randomly singing when we get together around this time of year. When we were in chorus in school, she was alto and I was soprano, so that gives us two parts of the harmony, which works out OK.

Kristin, if you see this, I'm home now, but I haven't eaten and would be willing to wait for you to get home to eat.

I LOVE Carol of the Bells a cappella. With good clean harmonies, the bells ARE there, in an onomatopoeic sense. I also love to sing it. The tenor part is way fun.

My favorite christmas songs are all depressing minor key songs, though. "I Wonder as I Wander" "Lullay Thou Little Tiny Child," and "Lo! How a Rose E'er Blooming" stick out.

This conversation is reminding me that this is a great time of year to go back to my church. They have wonderful music there and I do enjoy signing the Christmas classic hymns.

And, well, it in no way counts as a "carol", but Lauridsen's "O Magnum Mysterium" is the most moving piece of music I've ever performed / heard performed in a Christmas setting. Beating out even good old Handel's Messiah, though for a much shorter amount of time.

DC's jury room is one of the circles of hell. Crowded, not well cleaned (ever), overheated, with multiple TVs blaring (luckily all the same thing), not enough restrooms, etc.

Can't count on that in DC--when I served on a trial, one of the women was a lawyer--who had just gotten back from maternity leave. It was a two week trial, and she was PISSED. If she wasn't working, she wanted to be home with the baby! We also had an ex-cop on the jury. Bizarre, no?

I don't know how much it would pay, but it would be 35 hrs/wk and after probation they'd pay completely for health insurance, long and short term disability, 3% contribution to 401 K, sick and personal leave and paid holidays.

Really? I did not know those were names for the same song. I had heard the title "Coventry Carol" but did not place it with the same music. Good to know!

(It's called by the longer title on the CD I'm listening to right now.)

Coventry Carol

Originally written for a mystery play put on by the Guild of the Tailors and Shearers in the 16th century. It's probably my favorite carol.
