I'm reading a site with reviews of the Baby-sitters Club books. OMG, the outfits. The outfits that I used to think were SO cool.
(And I'm now remembering my favorite outfit from around the time I was reading those books. Cropped leggings, white and lime green stripes. White longish t-shirt with a picture of some bike racers done in sequins, with "Tour de France" written in hot pink and lime green script. Two pairs of scrunch socks, in pink and green -- one foot with the pink and then the green, the other foot with the green and then the pink. One side of my hair pulled back with a pink and green polka-dot bow. What the hell was I thinking? I believe I completed the look with L.A. Gear sneakers. Which were purple.)
I remember I used to love to wear my black leggings with lace at the ankles with a long tshirt that fell off one shoulder and capezio flats. Good times.
See how Hil admits this on her birthday when we pretty much can't mock her for it?

I think sometime around 1988-1989 was the mixed scrunch sock phase. I started doing it because my older sister did, and she was in Jr. High so that must mean that it was cool. (I think my mom liked it because wearing two pairs of socks meant that I could wear hand-me-down shoes a few years earlier.)
However, from the books:
Like that Monday, she was wearing a black skirt and tights that were two colors: one leg was red and the other was black. And her shoes were shiny black and laced up to the ankles. She was also wearing this enormous black turtleneck sweater with red flecks in it, and one round red earring and one square black one. Her hair, which was in a mid-perm stage around her face, was pulled back with this silver lamé band.
Standing next to each other, Claudia and Janine couldn't have looked more different, even though that day Claudia was dressed fairly conservatively: white jeans, red shoes with big bows, a tropical jungle shirt with each button shaped like a piece of fruit, and her hair pulled to one side with a banana barrette. But Janine, with her short hair and bangs, her pullover sweater, and plain skirt and loafers, make Claudia look extremely exotic.
Waitaminute, Aimée. Aren't you, like, ALLERGIC to chocolate?
Yes. Yes, she is.
Chocolate is kinda like her Kryptonite. Can't resist it. Makes her ill.
No lead will stop it, though.

I have this relationship with avocados.
No lead will stop it, though.

Online dating sucks. I've been on 8 first dates with gents who were fantastic on screen and didn't smell at all appealing IRL.
This is true. Still, online dating is comfortable for me, because online communication of all sorts is comfortable for me, so I feel like this way at least I'm putting myself out there. And there're enough others doing the same that I could probably have 8 dates in a month, with proper planning and not too much over-thinking.
Those outfits, Hil? Are AWESOME.
