I'm not really familiar with canon, but does anyone think they were setting up Irene Adler not really being dead/in cahoots with Moriarty? Did they say whether or not she was one of the bodies that wasn't recovered?

I was wondering if she would/will turn out to not be dead. I don't remember whether Holmes specifically said he saw her body. (And even so, I suppose that could still turn out to have been a ruse.)

Did the Christmas episode end with Esposito joining for dinner the woman he brought the clock to? It was a highlight to me, so I remember it as the end.
