Yep. It is suffering in many respects by doing its own cases rather than digging into the ADC canon for their inspiration. (I'll have to subscribe to this thread. I have very few spaces where I feel safe being critical of Elementary, due to its fandom.)
I can understand with 22 episodes a season, why they wouldn't want to totally do canon stories, but it would be nice if they did a few canon stories a season.
As I've said before, there's little evidence they've ever read Sherlock Holmes. Emo Sherlock Holmes who admits he's wrong and tells people how he feels? I don't think so.
I like Emo Holmes. It makes a nice contrast with the Moffat show.
I like my Holmes like I like my abductions: alien.

I like the show Elementary, but it doesn't feel like Sherlock Holmes at all to me.

Pretty much this.
This thread is completely cracking my shit up.
I think this would be a more compelling show if there was not overt link to SH. Really, it is just The Mentalist with less sociopathy.
I quite like them doing their own cases. I like it better than taking the canon and twisting it around. Moffat's Moriarty made me stop watching.

This is about where I'm at.
Does Moffat's Moriarty feel like book Holmes? I'm thinking I must have forgotten way more than I realised, because this guy isn't so much moustache twirling as he is Black Swan twirling. I do not get him, or his fandom, the oohing and ahing of his every twitch, and the manic Mormor shipping (well, okay, now that it's Fassbender, it's kinda okay).
