Calli,
I'm with you there. The whole thing makes me uncomfortable. It is why I stopped watching Monk.
This thread is for procedural TV, shows where the primary idea is to figure out the case. [NAFDA]
Calli,

I thought I was the only one discomfited by the larfs generated by Monk's condition. Epic arguments with little brother over this very topic.
Hey! Let's take a murder, bereavement, emotional trauma, and a mental disorder and make a comedy on that foundation! Hilarious! And I love Tony Shaloub.
definitely not. The ep (I think it was in the second season) where he completely broke down and was in a mental hospital? not funny. he acted it VERY well, but I couldn't see the character played for laughs any more.
ITA about Monk. If it had been played as a serious drama with comedic elements, I think I'd have loved it, but playing it all for laughs made me deeply uncomfortable.
Perception: I watched about half of it and realized I wasn't paying attention, so I turned it off. It's still on my DVR, I'll probably give it another try. I like McCormick, and I usually like Sherlock-Holmes-type stories, but this one didn't grab me.
oh and all of the "surprises" in the pilot (Perception) I pretty much saw coming. I watch too many procedurals so I am not sure it is possible to surprise me any longer, but some of this stuff was SO obvious. dang.
That's why I gave up on Monk, too. I wanted to see him getting better, not worse.

Def this. I liked it okay. More of a "watch while doing sudoku" than a "pay very close attention" thing so far. I liked the notion of "imaginary" advisors at the same time my psych-minor brain keeps going it's vanishingly rare for one person to have both audio and visual hallucinations. Then I tell my psych-minor brain to shut up and enjoy them like I did Paul Bettany in A Beautiful Mind.
I liked it...it reminded me of Numbers, I think, more than anything else...my mind wasn't blown, but it was decent.
I liked the notion of imaginary advisors better as it was done in Raines, but I think I'm the only one who even saw that show. But I do enjoy the idea.
I'll probably give it a couple of episodes to see where they go with it. If it turns into dealing with balancing problems stemming from unmedicated schizophrenia vs. problems caused by the not inconsiderable side effects of the meds--and they already are showing that it takes a village to support the lead in lieu of medication--that could be done well.
But the whole unmedicated schizophrenia issue could be handled in ways that I'm not comfortable with. Oh well. Lots of other cute actors to watch if that happens.
