Procedurals 1: Anything You Say Can and Will Be Used Against You.
This thread is for procedural TV, shows where the primary idea is to figure out the case. [NAFDA]
I lost the middle twenty minutes of CM because the broadcast went inexplicably wonky. Got enough of it, though, I think. Forrest is incredibly thin and I was shocked to see Hotch's teeth. Whoever said that was the most he'd smiled in ages was right.
I was a little surprised to see how quickly Erin acquiesced-- I mean, it wasn't unrealistic of her to do so and maybe I missed something in those middle twenty minutes, but from the way she spoke to them at the beginning, I thought for sure she was going to skin both Cooper and Hotch and nail their hides to the wall as trophies.
Paget Brewster's not big by regular standards, but at least she can project a little solidity by Hollywood standards. She looked good slamming that guy into the wall.
exactly! You believe that Prentiss can kick someone's ass. That chick looks like she'd get blown over by a strong wind.
I was very disappointed in the "pilot." I think there were just way too many characters in the episode so it felt as if everyone got, like, three lines. It was weird. I didn't get a real handle on anyone.
If I could do it over, I'd just introduce FW's character and have him working with the existing team. Then, at the end, maybe Erin offers him the chance to build his own team that we could meet later, when it's a show.
Or go the CSI method and take one or two characters from the original team and invent some reason they have to work with this other team on a case.
Kristen - that makes sense. You'd get a nice origins story as well as the pilot.
I think I would have like the pilot better if I had liked the team better. My issues with the woman have been mentioned, I didn't like the annoying "sexual tension" with the british guy. The former prisoner just looks weird to me. It might be the eye color. I don't like it in Clint Howard or Brian Bloom either.
The pilot was OK to me, but I’m not sure I’m feeling the team. I didn’t get a good feel for Prophet. What was he in for that would garner info from a current inmate, especially after finding out he’s FBI? (would the FBI hire an ex-con field agent?) Is he a hacker? San Q isn't a low security prison. Is he supposed to be their Garcia? Or is that Gina since she was showing off about the network set up? She’s certainly not very intimidating – I could take her just by sitting on her. Hell, I think my 13-year-old could take her. Is she supposed to be part Morgan/Garcia (and Reid what with the ssuspect narrowing and all)? Rawsom was very charming but there’s no chemistry between him and Gina (lots with Emily though). I noticed Cooper doing the Gideon thing of writing/keeping pictures. Does Rossi do that? I don’t think I’ve noticed. I was shocked that Erin rolled over and let both Hotch and Cooper off the hook. She’s written very unevenly and it’s disconcerting.
Prophet makes no sense to me, and they didn't manage to set up an air of mystery, just confusion. So no interest there. The woman is a lost cause acting and writing-wise. No pop there. The British guy might be coasting on an accent and some charisma, but it's a cute accent. I have faith Forrest Whitaker will rise above his material, but that's barely half the cast.
I sense a recasting before fall.
If they test the female character, I think that they'll find that she's not hot enough for the men or badass enough for the women. I say take Van Pelt from The Mentalist (because Jane has been getting on my nerves lately)
