I tell you I have this theory. It goes where, you're the one who's not my sister. Cuz mom adopted you from a shoe box full of baby howler monkeys, and never told you cuz it could hurt your delicate baby feelings.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

But was the book about multiple characters and motivation? I'm probably asking too much of bestsellers--I hear the Nick Castle book is edited like crap and it's at #11.

She doesn't get people or their why, but she writes about them. They don't sound like dry procedurals.

Compassionately intolerant

This doesn't strike me as unusual, having an acquaintance who is almost certainly on the spectrum

Nor me. The person I know who is on the spectrum greatly exaggerates his abilities, sharing the haughty tendency, whereas Brennan is written as actually brilliant.

Danger is my middle name, only I spell it R. u. t. h. - Tina Belcher.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

Too funny.

Next, maybe some Drive and Slither references?

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Ordinarily, that kind of meta would make me roll my eyes, but I was laughing too hard.

"Didn't you wear that, like, five years ago? Isn't it time to get over it?"

Also made me a bit sad, though.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

This is the geekiest show ever.
