"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

Ugh. I am so tired of watching (or not watching) shows where the lead is trash, but the supporting case is good.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Ok, I'm only a quarter into season 6 of Elementary, but I am really enjoying Joan's suits.

Did anyone watch The Rookie?

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I did! I liked it, but it was a pretty standard procedural. I was hoping for more.

What is even happening?

I fell asleep watching The Rookie. Twice. I liked what I saw well enough, but obviously it didn't keep my attention. (To be fair, both attempts to watch happened too late at night).

I was hoping for more, too. I have a feeling this is just going to be a "Sure he's old, but look at that devilish charm" series.

I also don't know exactly how old NF. My apologies if he is 40 +/- a couple of years, but I'm not buying him as 40. On screen, he reads as late 40s/early 50s.

Did you watch it, Tom? What did you think?

He's 47 according to IMDB. His romantic lead is 30 also according to IMDB.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Do they treat his age (or his character's) realistically, or did the show just borrow some of those old Ryan Caulfield: Year One scripts from when Sean Maher got his start and throw in a few old age jokes while having NF chase down crooks like he's twentysomething?

Thanks, sj.

Matt, I remember him huffing and puffing after chasing a perp and grimacing when his training instructor told him they still had to put in eight more hours.

My take is that his character will also be better than some rookies, because of his life experience, but that will also lead him to assume his way is the right way, which could be a drawback. That's from probably 2/3rds of the pilot (and whatever press materials I absorbed while working).

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

I like that they're not doing the rakish charm thing and that there are three rookies, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Ditto for the training officers. And they are playing the physicality true to his age. He can't run as fast or jump a fence gracefully as the others and he doesn't magically make up for it by outsmarting everyone, but he'll try.

I went into it with low expectations so I was pleasantly surprised to find it interesting enough that I'll give it a few more eps to see if it sticks.
