Comedy 1: A Little Song, a Little Dance, a Little Seltzer Down Your Pants

Which I had heard! But still, you have to ease into it with low expectations and then it starts to pay off bigger and bigger.
I love low-stakes drama with slow-built character arcs. The premise on this is Arrested Development, but in a lot of ways it's more like Northern Exposure. Also it's a bit of a hangout comedy. You just want to spend time with the characters.
I particularly like the end-episode bits where David (inflected "!") and Alexis troll their parents mercilessly.
I also like how some of the broader jokes (like Alexis being kidnapped by various rich sleezeballs) comes around as a both an emotional toll on David and an aspect of Alexis' learned competence (including her F-class drivers license).
So I was looking through the comedy series options and saw Jane the Virgin and gave it a shot. I've only watched the first 2 episodes, but I am totally charmed. It Is So Miami! I feel like I am home. Does it continue to be oh so charming and telenovelas-like? If so I am here for it.
Absolutely, Laura. You will love it!
I love JtV so so so so much.
How is it only in the last month or so that I'm discovering Hannah Gadsby? ("Discovering" like Columbus discovered America - she's been around for a good decade or something). She's got the most amazing spicy brains and she's cute as hell. Gotta find me a friend willing to lend me a Netflix password so I can see "Nanette". Seriously, she's awesome, how am I only just now finding this bandwagon to hop on to?

Oh! I get to be all "I liked her before it was cool"! Biyi and I saw her stand-up show at the Melbourne Comedy Festival a decade ago or so. She was just in a meeting room at Melbourne City Hall. (The topic was her experience walking across England, as in from the Irish to the North Sea.) One thing I missed out on was that she used to do walking tours of the National Gallery here. (She has a degree in Art History.)
Alas, I don't have Netflix, so I haven't seen Nanette yet either.
I love JtV so so so so much.
It is the Latino version of Soap, which I also loved. It's awesome.

I always thought of it as a Latina Gilmore Girls.
Ah, I didn't watch Gilmore Girls so I didn't get a connection there.
