I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Agreed on Murphy Brown. I hope that's just the first episode establishing everything. And, yeah, the laugh track is jarring. We'll see.

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

I bailed on Murphy Brown about ten minutes in. I loved the original incarnation but this was painfully awkward and unfunny. And it's been so long since I watched a multi-camera sitcom I forgot how jarring it is when the lighting changes between angles!

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

One nice touch on The Good Place was that, of course, Eleanor would know about both Kamilah and her sister. It was fun to see Mike O'Malley, too.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

I was enjoying Michael's Steven Seagal look in Tahani's near-death event.

What is even happening?

The cold open (the video montage with that classic rock song I'm not going to spoil) had me SO excited, but then yes, everything you said, Jess.

I also felt like I was watching old people put on a high school play. Everyone seemed to be overacting, except Candice, who didn't seem at ease or that engaged with the character.

Thursday was also a particularly heavy day for anything political, which is also supposed to be funny. The way news works now, even if they manage to lose the laugh track and make it edgier and less predictable, like sj recommends, I'm wondering they can pull it off.

GOOD PLACE = LOVE

It really does. I think I love it so much (aside from the fabulous cast) because it has everything I like in a serial drama, and yet it's a half-hour comedy.

One nice touch on The Good Place was that, of course, Eleanor would know about both Kamilah and her sister. It was fun to see Mike O'Malley, too.

I also loved that Eleanor said she didn't really like Kamilah.

Vulture has published a supposedly complete list of every name Tahani has ever dropped: [link]

The review I saw of the new Murphy Brown is that it settles down a bit by the 3rd episode. I haven't seen it, since I no longer have cable and Hulu doesn't get it.

This may be the first time ever that Tahani and Eleanor don't start out hating each other.

every name Tahani has ever dropped

I paused the show on Tahani's contact list. The next contact after The Edge's real number was The Queen.

And after that, The Rock.

I loved how happy the doorman was with his frog-emblazoned travel mug.
