And now that I have actually seen this week's episode, I think there are two things in it that support my theory. The idea that Barney will be on his fourth wife in 20 years and the fact that if Ted could go back in time, he would go back and meet their mother earlier to have more time with her, indicating that maybe he has already lost her.
