Though it's my understanding that the show is kind of fail-y on a lot of issues, including mental illness.
It's 100% fail-y on just about every issue. For the record.

Meanwhile, I'm painting hearts and stars around Raising Hope with Burt & Virginia remaining strong through Jimmy's bad trip. And Jimmy punching out Dogheaded Man (which is just as awesome in context as Xander taking a shot at the Evil Clown) and accidentally giving his boss just what he wanted.
Ahahaha! I just didn't want Steph to feel like she needed to pussyfoot around the enormous levels of fail on a show I still enjoy VERY MUCH. As long as I don't think too hard, and just stick to humming "Unpretty" as I go about my day.

But then, occasionally, it does an issue so perfectly that it hurts. Like Burt's talk with Kurt about sex.
When Creepy Glee Club Teacher showed off his I-embrace-my-flaws t-shirt, I was muttering "Please say 'Tiny Dick.' Please say 'Tiny Dick.' Please say 'Tiny Dick.' "
That reminds me of "Kitchen Confidential" and "He's a total fraud, with a tiny penis."
"How do you know that?"
"I don't...but it's the rumor I'm starting."

Oh yeah, it has great moments, absolutely. And great characters, many of whom I don't believe you are supposed to like. (edit, I really mean you aren't supposed to think they are good people) I mean, it's still Ryan Murphy.
Darn it, I forgot that people in other areas of the country got actual network programming the last couple of nights instead of constant weather coverage.
My Tivo didn't pick it up! Why Tivo hast thou forsaken me?!
