GOSPEL HAND!
Testify!
Glee--That was way too much set up and not enough substance. It kind of felt like a second pilot.
Perkins,
I appreciate you saying that because I was kind of "meh" on the ep and I figured I was just being a grump again.
I felt the same way-- and yeah, it was sort of like a second pilot, but it didn't bother me much. I figure that, in a way, we needed to be reintroduced to everyone after all their experiences last year.
It was literally, the first day of school, all over again.
I did love Finn calling Rachel on her line of BS and stating that he still likes her, but that she has to own up to her real reasons. That was just about one of the most grown-up and leaderlike things he's ever done.
I dislike the alleged moral center of the show, Will, continuing to do very shitty things and still getting "To Sir With Love" tributes every third episode.
Somebody needs to call him out on his douchery, going back to bullying and lying to get Finn to join in the first place.
I was also slightly weirded out by the shower intro of the new blonde guy, because it felt like the POV was less Finn's than the producers of the show.
If Rachel ever chooses Finn over her career it would be a huge betrayal of her character.

Given that's how Finn was found by Will, I thought it was an unnecessary reference to the pilot - which absolutely made this feel like a second pilot.

Admittedly, I was way uncomfortable with Will going along with the mean girl tactics, but it's a testament to Matthew Morrison's skills that you could feel his palpable discomfort with the situation after the pizza situation and that he did wind up doing the right thing and apologizing to Beiste. At the same time, can't blame him for being pissed, given the budget cut (again) and that she was less than cordial and accommodating with respect to the Glee club, coming off as another Sue-type. What I hope we'll see is maybe a developing mutual respect between them now that he apologized.

Rachel will never choose anything over her career. She's incapable of it. Besides that, she's still switching affections fairly quickly -- last season she had a crush on Schue and was dating Puck and Finn and Jesse all within a brief amount of time. I don't truly think Finn is the Love of her Life or anything.
I suspect Rachel is in love with being in love more that she's been in love with any one guy. And, yes, in love with her career most of all.
I'm not as uncomfortable with Will getting the "To Sir With Love" tributes from the kids. He goes a long way for the kids -- he saves the shittiness for the adults.
I felt more "meh" about the song choices. I'd have liked to see more variety than the current top 40, although the duet of "Telephone" was beautiful. (It didn't help that I loathe "Empire State of Mind," even with an instrumental hook stolen from "Love on a Two-Way Street.")
I hate to admit it, but Kurt is starting to annoy me. He needs to act more like a person and less like a stereotype.
Loved Sam's comeback to Puck's line about tennis balls. Kid's got wit.
