I always thought that To Sir With Love was a song with a young girl talking to an older man that she had been in a relationship with.
It makes much more sense as a song choice for Glee, now.
eta: I'm familiar with the version by Petula Clark.

I was fortunate enough to have a number of "Sirs" in my youth...that song, and that version kills me every time.
Kurt - he has an eyebrow and he knows how to use it.

The original singer was Lulu.
Hi, folks. I briefly delurked in the Delurking thread last fall, and I'm delurking again to add my several cents about the finale. I'm with most of you -- the show is not about the sense-making, but it's just so darn fun that I can't stop watching.
I liked the Journey medley and was glad that it wasn't entirely the Rachel/Finn show (but where was the Kurt solo, hmm?), but was also glad that they didn't win. The Vocal Adrenaline number was slick and overproduced, so it's no wonder they won. LOVED "To Sir, With Love" and "Over the Rainbow." I cried big, salty tears when Quinn had her baby and pretty much whenever anyone sang anything because I too am a sap of monumental proportions. I had no problem with Sue being the savior of the glee club. I liked the way she justified it, too -- very in keeping with her character.
Random thoughts: Kurt needs to sing more and cry less. Love his voice, love his dad, love him, but love him most when he's being his sweetly snarky self. Love Artie's voice most of all -- he needs to sing in every episode (and how cute was he with his slicked-back hair?). Could watch Brittany dance all the time. Glad Mike and Matt are finally getting a few lines. Also -- fastest adoption ever!
Could watch Brittany dance all the time.
Seriously. I learned only recently that she danced the Singles Ladies dance on tour with Beyoncé and now it all makes sense.

Given the speed of delivery, I'm not surprised.
I'm glad I don't live in Glee time or I'd be dead by now.

Yeah, I found that out after she turned it out on Can't Touch This.

Ha! No kidding. I'm pretty sure her labor only lasted as long as "Bohemian Rhapsody." Now, granted, it's a long song, but ...

Apparently, she was initially hired because she already knew the dance and could teach it to the others. Then the producer discovered she was hilarious and kept her around.
Got to see the season finale last night:
I'd be a bad celebrity. If I were a singer of popularity judging a glee club contest in which the identity of the judges wasn't known beforehand, I might let one club get away with using the songs of one of the celebrity musical judges -- coincidences happen. I'd probably mark down Aural Intensity for just happening to perform a mash-up of the songs of both celebrity musical judges.
Did anyone else think "Bohemian Rhapsody" was more a solo for Jesse than a group song?
I know there was some criticism of "To Sir With Love," but Rachel owned it. I haven't been watching long, but it seems that she has a great voice but too often is given songs that don't fit her. This song does. (And at the risk of iconoclasm, I'll say that she's miscast in "Don't Stop Believin'.")
Great last scene between Sue and Schu. Note to the writers: Don't let them be friends, and above all, don't let them sleep together. Although I'd like to see them as reluctant allies against a common enemy. Oh, okay, let them sleep together once, but only if each of them realizes it was the biggest mistake of their lives afterward.
but it seems that she has a great voice but too often is given songs that don't fit her.
Definitely. And I think she weakens her sound to try to match better with Finn, too.
