I love the gift opening thing because I always want to see what people get! (I know it's deadly boring for most normal people.) The ones I've been to have been lowkey brunchy things for close friends.

Spike's Bitches 37: You take the killing for granted.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
Daisy! Max Cady has a new album! Neat!
SuziQ:
(1) How's your mom today?
(2) So, what did you think of Folsom?
t edit Lee -- I disremember -- did you go to Folsom too, and if so, was it your first time?
And juliana, O thou veteran of Folsoms past (or, okay, just one) -- what did you think of this year?
(1) Doing well. They are going to keep her an extra day or so to get her blood thinner stuff worked out, but beyond that, everything is going great.
(2) Purrrrrrr. Next year will try to get there earlier so I can see more before it becomes PEOPLE, PEOPLE, PEOPLE. There will be an lj entry eventually.
eta - my cousin who I have been staying with, in the city of Fulsom, found out where I went and said when I return later this week, she will have leather sheets on the guest bed for me. Bwah!!!

What was your favorite thing?
I haven't made it to the Folsom street fair yet It always seems to happen on a busy weekend
What was your favorite thing?
Well....big picture? That all these people are comfortable sharing what turns them on, literally. I'm so curious and yet have never had the chance to explore or let my freak flag fly (still trying to figure out what my freak flag looks like).
Specifically? I got to try on a real corset, not a cheapy thing, and MAN it was nice. I just need to find some cash so I can afford one. WANT. A while ago Jilli pointed me at an ebay-er who makes custom corsets for a more reasonable price than Dark Garden. Need to revisit. Anyone wanna trade my $200 giftcertificate.com balance for a corset???
It is Not Done to expect a gift for any occasion, including a wedding, says Miss Manners. It is also Not Done to expect people to pay for a party or dinner you invited them to. Also, that person paid more for her wedding than I did for my first house.
Still, registration is very handy, especially if you don't know someone very well. I was a bit startled by the gifts listed at Target for my cousin's wedding, since it was basically a shopping list for everything under the sun.
I have one fewer teeth. (That looks so wrong.) I've taken one of the 8 Darvocets the dentist prescribed me, which is a good thing because the local is wearing off. I think I'm a little loopy, though.
The tradition is that it's bad manners to expect or ask for gifts for your wedding. But the custom is that everyone has gift regestries and you're just supposed to somehow find out about them. While I do think it's rude to expect gifts or gifts of a certain value it's just an annoying inconvenience that the registry information is never in the invitation where everyone coming to the wedding can see it.
Well, they also used to publish it in the paper with the engagement announcement. Or, they did for my parents.

I know! They've been playing in my hood a lot lately. Here's a slideshow of their release party at Doublewide. [link]

Huh! That's not how I imagined the lead singer at all. He looks more suited to soulful Britpop.
