Not the brightest bulb on the tree: MIT Student Arrested With Fake Bomb [link]
A different article said it wasn't a fake bomb, just some arty electronic thing she made. I'll try to dig up the link....
Looks like the "improvised electronic device" consisted of a circuit board and a common battery that caused her sweatshirt, which had painted writing on it, to light up. Authorities referred to the paint as "putty."
The hoodie reads "Socket To Me / COURSE VI." A BB commenter familiar with MIT stuff says, "Course VI means she majors in Electrical Engineering / Computer Science."

This article points out that the circuit board was actually on the inside of the sweatshirt, powering the LED display on the front. [link]
ya they said that in the article I read. But still. You'd think. heightened security. Fear. Maybe I shouldn't wear something that looks like a bunch of wires in a vest to the airport. It's fine around campus, esp for folks who know the club name on the back. IJS.
Yeah, in the photos I've seen, it does
not
look like putty on the device. Just paint.
And the whole police response is like, "She's lucky we didn't kill her."
Oh, it's dumb. I certainly don't question that.
I'd give advice, bonny, but I think you've already gotten great advice from everyone else. Not a failure. Just an adjustment. And yes, please go to the doctor.
But the play-doh in her hands?
happy birthday smonster

Yeah, probably. I've read that airport security will sometimes confiscates any homemade electronic device.
