Jayne: That's a good idea. Good idea. Tell us where the stuff's at so I can shoot you. Mal: Point of interest? Offering to shoot us might not work so well as an incentive as you might imagine.

Well, I'd say there are three main types--Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox. And then you can get into fun debates about whether Mormons are Christian or not and suchlike. Really, it's a great big fat can of worms. But I'm pretty sure no one HERE means to offend anyone else. Out there in the world at large, NSM.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I'm with ND--"Christian" is the term for all people who believe in Christ and the trinity, and the two main types of Christians are Catholic and Protestant, and the various subcategories below Protestant

That's what I've always thought.

'Cept what about Orthodox Christianity?

eta: Orthodox x-post....

What falls under Orthodox? I'd never thought about there being a third grouping for Christians.

t edit Oh, duh -- do you mean Greek Orthodox? Are there any other [fill in the blank] Orthodox Christian churches?

The guys in Russia, etc. who split from the Catholic Church, um... long long long long time ago....

I don't think so. I always thought "Orthodox" = "Greek Orthodox."

eta: Guess not....

Art Crawl!!!

Greek and Russian Orthodox.

The original split in the Church was between Western (Catholic) and Eastern (Orthodox) Christians.

The way I was taught in CCD was that Orthodox was the first form of Protestants, even though they weren't technically protesting anything. That way, they could deny the ancient history of Orthodox Catholics and can rank them with The Others.

Well, they were protesting the lineage of the Pope if memory serves.
