Kristin that would be awesome but I'm working tonight until 6 or so (the chronically late manager is closing.) I could come straight from work and be there between 7 and 8 but I don't want to keep you up too late or add stress to the night before your first day of school.
Spike's Bitches 37: You take the killing for granted.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
I haven't worn mascara since high school and I'd have it on for five minutes before I rubbed my eyes and smeared it all over.
I didn't wear mascara for years because of this problem. It didn't matter what I tried, waterproof, etc. When I explained that nothing worked to a salesperson in Sephora, she got me to try "Kiss Me" masacara by Blinc, which works very differently than other mascaras.
Basically, it doesn't paint them, it creates a tube around each lash. You don't need makeup remover to take it off--you have to use a combination of water and rubbing. Either one alone usually doesn't make it come off. So if you cry, but don't rub, or rub but without water, it should stay on all day. When you take it off, it looks like your lashes are coming off into the sink (but don't worry they aren't)!
Just be careful when you put it on because it takes a bit longer to dry. But when it's on, it's on. I inevitably get a spot of black somewhere in the first minute, so usually I put it on first and then q-tip away the spot before I put on the rest of my makeup.
It's a bit pricey (@$25) as compared to drugstore brands but about the same as most brands Sephora recommends and lasts longer.

It's not ideal (I'm trying to be asleep by 9:30-10 tonight), but it's workable. The problem is that we're going to end up buying makeup at a grocery store (CVS closes at 6 on Sundays up here), and I'm not really all that good at picking stuff out in that situation. I'm a whore for the beauty supply stores where they have everything and awesome consultants everywhere. Even though I don't have a lot of extra money, I see my makeup as an investment. I pay more because I've found that the higher quality stuff looks better, is easier to apply, and lasts longer.
I'm really not the best consultant--I really only know how to do *my* makeup. I mean, with the help of a good consultant I'm fine, but I worry that I'll pick out bad stuff for you. Too bad Jen isn't available--she's a makeup guru.
Hmm. Hivemind, can you give Laga advice about specific brands of makeup that she can find at most pharmacies? I can do the color/application thing with her, but I have no idea what to buy.
ETA: Alternatively, I can make a run this afternoon to Sephora and get basic stuff like mascara. Thanks for the heads up, Megan! I think *I* want some of that stuff, too, and I'm out of mascara.
More Coffee:
Laga, are you working tomorrow? If you could meet me in Brentwood between my meetings and the welcome back BBQ, I could do a quick run with you then. I have a couple of hours free between 3-5.
Kristin do you think I could borrow some of your stuff? It seems wasteful for me to buy cosmetics that I'm only going to wear once.
tea: I am off tomorrow! I can call the contestant coordinator in the morning and find out for sure what I have to wear and meet you at three!
crumpets: does makeup expire? I could see investing in some really high quality stuff providing that it will last the ten or twenty years it will take me to use it up.
Laga, I don't have anything you could borrow really--you'd need it overnight, and I need it every morning.
We'll have to pick a place to meet. It will probably be closer to 3:30, though.
Hold on, let me google.
Anytime anyplace works for me on Monday. I have the whole day off.
Insent.
