Laura, I knew someone who lived in Florida who said they couldn't have dog doors (he had a beagle) - there was a danger that an alligator would use it to come in.
Spike's Bitches 37: You take the killing for granted.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
So, this new Hurricane Dean is headed straight for PR at the moment. Actually, it's still just a tropical storm at the moment. I am very curious because I've never experienced a hurricane before (except the remnants when they would make NC rainy for a few days). I'm also very nervous if the hurricane hits, there's absolutely no where to go (living on an island and all).
Joe's going to check out the generator this weekend just in case.
eta: oh, and we've never had cats, but there are tons of very savvy feral cats around here. They seem to do very well outside, but I guess I would be nervous if I cared about one of them as a pet.
the difference in my back is what's so amazing. I feel just much better in general.
YAY!!! And cutiehead Owen!
Hurricane Dean?
Hee.
Yeah, its actually huge, but next to its brother it looks small.

A quick interruption just to note that Miss Fay is the newest permenant resident OTL.
Cats yay.
Coyotes boo.
I'm done. Artwork awaits.
It was actually calli, on LJ, who first (to me) noted the SPN/hurricane possibilities and it did make me laugh. I may end up hating Dean by the time this is all over.
moment of silence for Phil Rizzuto
My first job out of college included a desk with 20,000 Phil Rizzuto baseball cards under it.
Between the news of Yet More Chinese Product Recalls, and the projection that milk could hit $5/gallon because of increased Chinese demand, I say let's have a war! (Joke, joke)
There were a surprising number of feral cats in Malaysia, considering the monitor lizards loved to eat kittens. I suspect the monkeys did too. The kittens who achieved catdom were not to be trifled with.
Oh and, I've seen a number of coyotes around Rock Creek Park / Adams Morgan. Also some rats the size of coyotes.
There are coyotes in LA also, but that's not as surprising.
and the projection that milk could hit $5/gallon because of increased Chinese demand,
Why couldn't this happen before my dad retired?
Laura, I knew someone who lived in Florida who said they couldn't have dog doors (he had a beagle) - there was a danger that an alligator would use it to come in.
Huh, I can't imagine they would be interested. Anyway, never had a dog door, but cat doors. I imagine people outside the city would have dog doors.

I think this one might stick.
I've been through plenty of hurricanes. Every one I sat near a protected window or outside in a protected area and drank wine and enjoyed the scene. Wilma a couple years ago was the worst for us. Have a bunch of water, lots and lots of water, and non-perishable food. The stores run out real quick.
On a personal note this storm has bad timing and needs to die a quick death. DH has rescheduled his departure 4 times and is now due to fly up here on Thursday for us to drive back together over the weekend for school starting next week. If the storm were to come to Florida it would arrive Tuesday, the day before school starts. If it is still looks like it is coming our way DH will need to cancel his flight yet again and prepare the house. Wah!
