Seattle has it every other week (alternate weeks are recycling). It's yard waste plus non-meat food waste and food-soiled paper products like empty pizza boxes and used paper towels.

This is what we have in SF, but it's every week with garbage and recycling. Depending on my cooking energy/laziness, it can take awhile for me to fill up the little undersink can. Of late, the cleaners have taken to empyting this into the big can in the garage for me. Just one of the things that makes me think they are worth every penny.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Donair is to gyros as meatloaf is to real meat.

Suffice it to say, no fan. I can't imagine what it could be good for on a pizza.

Paperdol, a) he's looking for something to sneak your monkey away in and b) won't he be terribly embarassed everyone can look at his picture. But when one chants "Facebook!" as the shutter clicks, expectation of privacy slides to nil. Such is the downside of hanging with people who hang with each other online.

However, the really important lesson to be learnt from those pictures is that a) I need longer skirts or b) I need to pay more attention to how my legs are arranged.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

We supposedly have recycling in my office - separate receptacles, one for recyclable paper and another for everything else. And when we first moved to this building, I was good - careful to put recyclables into the blue container. Until the first night I worked late and saw the cleaning people emptying everything into one big container. sigh.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Happy anniversary, Susan and Dylan.

paperdol, the after party looks like it was a blast. And you looked GREAT at the reading.

My poor babies! Both of them are sick today. Isaac just woke from his nap, no fever but cranky as hell. I gave him Tylenol and a bottle of milk and now he's zoning out to Backyardigans and is much happier. Frances has a fever I can tell, but she's still asleep so I don't want to bother her. I'll take her temp and give her something when she wakes up. But now I feel like the bad mom who threw a party and gave out a nasty cold as the party favor.

Shit, Isaac just got sick. I gotta go.

Thank goodness that donair pizza was explained!

I was also very curious. We used to have the doner kebab in London at 3AM on the way home from the club. But, I have been known to have one while sober. It's a good quick snack on a Saturday when you're running errands.

I had that at my first apartment in DC. I very tactfully tried to say something to the maintenance guy, like "oh, I didn't know we could mix recyclables here" He said "I'm gonna tell you a secret. We don't actually recycle. We just put the bins out so people will stop asking about it. It costs too much money to recycle, and nobody wants their rent to go up" I just sighed, said okay and stopped sorting my trash.

NYU did that and they seem to do it here in my SF building as well. It really pissed me off in NY because residences could and did get fined if they didn't sort their trash properly, but I never heard of that happening with businesses.

So it looks like Isaac has a fever too, a low one, but still. And he just threw up his tylenol, so I'm not going to try medicating him for a good hour or so.

sigh.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

We assign employees to empty our recycle containers into the special recycle can ourselves, to make sure it all goes where it's supposed to.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I've noticed the cleaning people at my university dumping all the garbage and recycling into one bin, too.
