Longest nonstop run I ever did was Greensboro to Houston with a hellacious storm across the Achafalaya bridge. 19 hours. I'm still never driving that fucker again.

I can't imagine doing that now. I've been in the midatlantic long enough that a couplethree hours is a significant roadtrip. That totally goes away when I go back west, though. 3 hours from my brother's to my aunt's on backroads through Tx hillcountry? Just a chance to blare the stereo and lose my voice. 3 hrs to ABQ? A daytrip and how weird is it to spend the night?! It's weird.

Dallas to D.C. for my cousins 30th birthday. Drove back the next day or the day after.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

I think my longest drive was Central NJ to just east of Nashville. That's one I've done a few times. It's like 18 hours each way. I do not think I will do it again.

I did Jonesboro AR to Minneapolis (19 hours) in one fell swoop back in 1996. I came over the rise before the bridge from St. Paul right at sunset, in the middle of a hot air balloon race. It was like driving into a postcard.

Yup. Our distance comparisons got all whacked out here. Six hours is about a good driving shift, time to switch up. But then, we generally changed halfway through our shorter trips, just because.

But when we do five and a half hours regularly, and we used to do forty-five minutes just to get to the grocery, it does tend to put other road trips in perspective.

I can't drive more than five hours at a stretch without falling asleep at the wheel. Anything more than a 7 hour drive and I'm going to fly.

My family used to drive up to MN and Ill from southernmost NM just about every summer. However, usually without a/c and camping with 2 kids, so it was broken up into 3 or 4 days.

Compassionately intolerant

I drove from DC to Oakland in a big-ass moving truck for some friends who'd moved in a hurry. It took me 4 days and them quite by surprise. "We didn't expect you for two weeks!" Books on tape and an iron will. I can do anything!!
