Someone above mentioned that it should be in multiples of 18, because it represents chai. I think that $36 checks are quite common.

Article on Reading

According to the article 27% of Americans did not read a book in the last year. That means 73% did, which is kinda better than I would expect. There are some interesting stats about who reads what in the article too. I dunno if audio books would count, my count of books read would go up a bit if I counted stuff I listen to while commuting.

If I could count the scads of fanfiction I read, my count would go WAY up. Sometimes I even print it to read on a commute (by bus, not car)

Yes. Even $18 checks are pretty common for some folks. It depends on the swankiness of the affair.

Oh honey, the mentally unwell people have been in the fanbase since Game Changers was Stucky fanfiction on the internet. The calls have been coming from inside the house the whole time!

Bwah. This is true of me as well. I've read a few books this year, but if you factor in McShep fanfic the word count has to be in the low seven digits!

That's the stuff I'm currently mainlining! God bless del.icio.us.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Thanks! Uh, sort of drug-addled yesterday. Not a good way to live, and I'm taking it too for granted. I am disturbed.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

When the Gallup poll asked in 2005 how many books people had at least started -- a similar but not directly comparable question -- the typical answer was five. That was down from 10 in 1999, but close to the 1990 response of six.

I'm pretty sure I just saw a thing that circulation at the Queens Public Library shows that it's something like 9 books per person per year -- and you know not everyone goes to the library! So that was heartening.
