I always just assumed shoes lived by the door.
You mean they don't?
Even if you have a shoe rack to put them near on?

You mean they don't?Mine do.
They're free range.
Yeah, my 45 minute commute is fine, but only because it's not in a car. I think driving that long each way every day would not be good for my sanity.
I'm actually looking forward to my commute next week when I go back to work because I'll finally be able to start listening to all my podcasts again!
Mine is a ~25 minute drive in non-downtown city traffic. Having done friends' 30 minute by interstate commutes a couple of times, I much prefer the stoplights and idiots of my commute to their 70 mph and idiots. Plus, my alternate routes ? Take about the same amount of time, whereas theirs turn into these incredible hourplus slogs.
about 5 pairs of my shoes live near my bedroom door. the rest of the casual shoes live in one closet in a combo of hanging storage and boxes, dress shoes live in the other closet in boxes.
I'm about an hour from when I step on the train to when I step into my office. I'm OK with that most days.
My commute is about 20 minutes, one way. That will chage a bit when we move to Ypsi and Em starts school.
During my trip to Atlanta, I got caught in the tail end of the Baltimore to DC rush hour. It was not pleasant. At all. Otherwise, I was able to avoid any major traffic snarls (including Atlanta, thankfully - I can see why people say that driving in that rush hour is of the suck).

Is that if you take the shuttle from North Station, or if you walk?
Where I used to live, and where our office used to be, it'd take me 25 minutes to get from my Wicker Park appt. to work in downtown Evanston. Nice comfy Metra train, and I'd always get a good seat.
I can still take Metra, but it involves a shitload of walking. And maybe a bus. The less-comfy CTA trains can be faster, depending....
eta: Also, I can't read or web-surf on CTA trains without getting nauseous.
