I think the universe needs to buy Kat a present, STAT.
On sushi, DH and I usually split the "sushi deluxe" combo meal, plus either a negamaki or tempura thing. Given the option, though, I will eat as much sushi as is put in front of me, because it's just so delicious and bite-sized.
sushi - 12 -14 pieces - on a good eating day - but usually some of it is something veggie like oshinko roll.
Before coming to LA I'd never gotten full on sushi. Now I eat out at sushi restaurants at least twice a week. It's so weird that it's now normal food, not special and confusing treat.
I must conquer sake similarly. The restaurant's gimlets range from unnotable to annoying, and I hope going with sake means playing more to their strengths.
Problem with me pacing myself is that my most constant dinner companion monitors what I eat and we fight if I stop before he wants me to.

It's a fine summery day and I am home having the sweats. I hate summer colds.
How many pieces of sushi do you all typically eat in one sitting?
I usually eat a couple of rolls, plus a couple roe or uni gunkan-maki if I'm hungry. But it depends on the kind of roll. I try not to eat more than $20 worth of sushi at a sitting.
I suspect sushi may be on the menu tonight now that it's been brought up. I don't feel like baking the trout filet I have in my freezer.

I usually get a combo too, but the new Japanese restaurant that opened by me doesn't have a combo plate, which was why I was asking.
I got an eel avocado roll, which had about 7 segments, and a salmon, a tuna, and another eel sushi. Plus a cooked, salted mackerel Tapas thing, which was amazing.

I've just gotten used to it, but Mr. Jane and our friend S. love doing sake bombs. The place where we go is really nice about it too. They do the ones where you balance the sake above the beer with chopsticks then pound on the table to drop it. They always ask, and always clean up after.
This is our place, Teppo [link] My favorite thing there is the bacon wrapped grilled tomato kabob appetizer thingy.
In general, I hate restaurant staff already "knowing" what I want, but honestly, I always want hot tea here and the busboy has sometimes headed towards us with our drinks before we've had a chance to sit down.
He's cool. He gets to do that.
Looking at our sushi place on their "Friends of Teppo" it seems George Clooney is a friend of Teppo. I am now (probably insufficiently though) mortified that we sit in the back and behave like it's the pub down the street (even though it kinda is).
