I've often envied Joe in the mornings and his ease of getting work ready.

These khakis. This polo. Same shoes.

Where as for me, it's "Ok, this skirt and this top...wait...doesn't match. Where's the matching top? Fuck, dirty cause I wore it with jeans. Kay. These pants, and this top. Nope, this shirt is too short for these pants. Ok, this shirt. Nope, too bloated today. Finally, this shirt ok. These pants, this shirt. Shoes...shoes....ok, these shoes. Nope, heel falling off. These shoes - nope. Meeting today, should wear something more dress. These shoes? Scuffing on the side (color shoe with Sharpie). Scuffing fixed. Ok. Acessories...."

I had to google this — I didn't realize those were a *specific* type of shirt, other than, say, "button-front, short-sleeve." Keen.

Seriously! I loathe getting dressed in the mornings. And it's doubly hard in summer, because you want to be comfortable, but not trampy. It seems so much easier in the fall/winter than summer.

Which reminds me, I should start buying my new cableknit sweaters soonish.

For all of this, there are certain days on which I need to wear long sleeves, pants, and closed shoes--not just closed toe, but covering all the foot.

Irritating as hell because I can never remember which of my work-appropriate pants fit from one moment to the next. Which is why I'm sprinkling jeans throughout more of my week, so job walk days don't stand out so much.

Today I'm wearing a black short-sleeved sweater, v-necked but not enough to show cleavage, dark brown pants, and brown shoes, an outfit chosen when I remembered, in the shower, that I'd forgotten to iron anything the night before. (Oh, and my ID badge and card with the emergency codes and our dept. pager numbers on a Mariners lanyard, because you can take the girl out of her casual but you can't take the casual out of the girl, or something like that.) So I wore the only things left that more or less matched and didn't need ironing. Tuesday night I remembered to iron, so yesterday I felt all pretty in a red blouse and a red-and-gold skirt that performs the neat trick of looking straight and slimming while actually being kinda full and twirly.

But dressing will be much easier when fall gets here. Much easier to balance comfort and appropriateness, and a lot more of my winter wardrobe doesn't require ironing.

women can choose to wear a uniform like wardrobe though, plain colored pants or skirt and polo shirts is what some women do wear everyday. We are just used to much more variety, I think.

I worked with a woman who had 3 pairs of the same style black pants and 3 pairs of the same style grey pants. That is virtually all she wore to work year round.

Heh -- for me it's jeans or black pants, black t-shirt, shoes, watch. (Or, lately, "whatever shirt is clean that I can breastfeed in public while wearing," which is a much smaller group to choose from.)
