I totally bought that Ruby was working on her own in that moment. But it seemed clear to me later that it was Sam's plan.
I'm getting the feeling a lot of people were laughing at the first three-quarters of the episode (on LJ) -- specifically the Titanic hand, and the "Grace," which was a little hokey. But I liked it, even if the Titanic hand made me cringe a little bit. (It was so unnecessary! We get that it was going to be good! Dean was being all careful and focused and letting her explore!)
And the end ... the end was heartbreaking.
I just had a sudden realization that makes everything so much more ouchy.
Those thirty years Dean spent resisting down in Hell?
That's a year longer than Dean spent alive on Earth prior to going to Hell.
I rewatched. I found Sam just as fascinating to watch in that final scene as Dean. I thought JP was going to break down crying himself at least once.

Really? I just ignored the Titanic hand. I liked Anna's Grace better than Anna. I never thought anything was laugh worthy stupid, and the ending, and JA, broke me. Television is so very much his medium. This was even the episode where I accepted Gen as the one true Ruby.

I think this was the scene that Jared said he did break down. It was much more intense than the talk on the pier. I could imagine him losing it even during JA's coverage which is what he said happened.
Yeah, I can imagine that too.
Interesting theories about Castiel. Makes sense too.
Do we think that Gen is back or is that body all used up?
I never got that the whole thing was a ruse. Nicely done.
(Also, it is entirely possible for me to watch shirtless Winchesters of all three varieties. And in fact, I did! - Yes, JDM STILL on GA.)
I've gotta go to bed and can't wait for the thread turn over.
I just read on LJ that Jared said at the Chicago Con that he has a cute picture of his dogs asleep on the bed with Jensen. Awwww.
Have you noticed how it seems like Jared wears the same stuff that Sam does but that Jensen's wardrobe is not at all Dean's?
The gut-wrenching started when Dean didn't correct Sam's assumption that Anna must be happy now,
Did I mishear? I thought Dean replied "I doubt it". Only comment I really have. Other than that nothing to add.
I heard what you heard, TB.
