That scene also helped solidify my burning hatred of John. Your son, Dean, whom you raised to be a warrior, calls you in tears, and you never reply? You're in the same town, and you never show your face? Not to mention the "you son is dying and you never even bother to call" part of things.

Since John disappeared. Huh. So he did cut all ties. But the guy says he was there long enough to be in shock about the fire, so he stuck around for a little bit. Long enough for his friend to think he needed help.
