Supernatural 1: Saving People, Hunting Things - the Family Business
[NAFDA]. This is where we talk about the CW series Supernatural! Anything that's aired in the US (including promos) is fair game. No spoilers though -- if you post one by accident, an admin will delete it.
Also, why the hell did they bury the doctor alive? Cut off his head, put it in a separate box,
then
lock him in the fridge and bury it. Sheesh, guys. Immortality isn't helpful if your head's been detached.
(Also, Sam, messing around with alchemy is not a clever idea. You boys are so-so at doing research for regular occult thingamies. Trying to take up the Great Work? Oh please.)
t / Jilli's usual occult rantycakes
I was thinking the same thing, Jilli, about the head.
I had tornado warnings that interrupted my sound and part of the picture throughout the episode, so I think I got maybe a third of the dialog. I'm...oddly spoiled for some things and have no idea of others.
But next week? Oh, oh, dear.
I did notice the guy at the morgue was the actor who played Daniel Elkins in Dead Man's Blood. And Dad's journal has a new binder in the hamburger-eating scene--no scuffs, very shiny.
And there was Captain Fuller! And Major Lorne, and Otto from Dark Angel. And Sam's non-flippy hair. And Dean is pretty. Oh! And the guy who was doing the cutting was Billy Drago--Nitti from the Untouchables, though I'm sure he's done work since then.
I'm sorry, I giggled at the melon baller. Of course, what else would you use to scoop out an eyeball?

That was pretty much my reaction.
I'm sorry, I giggled at the melon baller.
I wasn't doing any giggling at that point. Anything having to do with eyeballs causes automatic cringing for me.
that melon baller gave me nightmares about eyeballs, except it involved the blond chick from Lost turning out to be the final cylon/terminator. Captain John Harper was also there. Weird and gross things happened.
Jilli, I think it's clear that the reason why they didn't chop off the doctor's head is so he can be useful as a plot point later. Hard to discuss dark chemical formulas that might bring your brother back from the dead if the dark chemist in question no longer has any vocal cords.
I hate to say, not only do I think there's the possibility that we'll see Dr. Frankenstein again, but Bela, too, somehow.
Just the fact that in such a gory episode (oh god he's cutting the guys rib cage open! Oh god he's splitting it open! Oh god the guys still alive watching and feeling all of this!) (and yes we mostly heard this and saw just some of it) we didn't see Bela drop dead --I believe she's dead, don't get me wrong-- makes me feel like they're leaving her recurrence open-ended.
Maybe next season we'll get the "Adventures of Dean and Bela! In HELL!"
And with that happy thought...
I thought that the episode was good and creepy and as somebody who also watched Smallville: it was a full night of Stargate actors on the CW last night. (Not that I can recall the name of the character the Stargate guy played - some sort of weaselly administrator but he played Jason Teague's not quite dead Daddy on Smallville - so connected to Supernatural too.)
I wish that they could have laid in more of the Bela backstory into the rest of the season instead of dumping it all at once. . .
That promo for next week told us NOTHING!!
