Mal: Cut it out. Job's not done until we're back on Serenity. Zoe: Sorry, sir. Didn't mean to enjoy the moment.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

So, I'm a week behind on SPN (just like always). I watched the ghost pirate ship episode last night.

Dear SPN writers,

If you're going to use a WELL-KNOWN magical artifact for your handwavium, do your goddamn research. A Hand of Glory is made by cutting off the left hand of a hanged man (and then doing other assorted things to it).

Plus, the bit with the older lady made me kinda cringe, and the whole ep felt a bit lackluster. Please to be doing better.

Signed, your local occult research geek

What is even happening?

Here's a right handed Hand of Glory (actual).

She was great, as was Jared, but the writing was horrible. After the umpteenth iteration of the one same joke, I was embarrassed for them both.

That's interesting, because every bit of folklore & occult history I've ever seen was very specific about it needing to be the left (sinister) hand. But neat that there's actually a HoG in a museum somewhere!

Jilli, you've seen Harold and Maude, right?

I suspect that last week's episode suffered from a bad script that needed to be rewritten and could not be made into a silk purse, not even for ready money, based on the Kripke comments reported from the strike lines.

I saw Harold & Maude long, long ago, and need to see it again.

I know! I get Buffy Tourette's whenever the Hand of Glory is discussed in any context. Buffy season 5's throw-away line uttered (I think by Giles) in the magic shop, "The Hand of Glory packs a powerful punch." When I watched (the original) The Wicker Man on New Year's Eve, which featured one somewhat prominently, it took me out of the film. Ditto this episode of Supernatural (although as Plei mentions it probably wasn't an episode I mind being taken out of).

I was mildly spoiled (for premise) and hoped the ghost ship episode would be so much more than it was, although I see a lot (maybe I'm taking too much) of potential in the image of both ghost brothers sort of merging and poofing.

I like Bela. I think I like her better than Ruby.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I know I like her better than Ruby. This could be my Y chromosome talking.

You do. I will burble at you tomorrow about it.

Because books.

I suspect that last week's episode suffered from a bad script that needed to be rewritten

But there were tuxes!

::crickets::

Yeah, that's pretty much all I've got. Well, no, there were a few good one-liners, too, but it definitely was the weakest episode of the season for me.

And tuxes!

No, that tag never closes.
