I love that JP can bring sweet, goofy Sam and reallyfuckingscary Sam in the same episode and have it all be part of the same character.
WORD. Oh, JP, you are bringing the game this season.

It was a nice counterpart in this ep having Dean NOT kill the guy who, while possessed, killed three people in a gruesome manner.
Sam had NO reason to kill that girl.
Well, technically, he wasn't concerned about the girl. He was killing the demon and the girl had to go along for the ride. And, unless I'm mistaken, in this universe, demon is always bad. No Clem-types.
He really, really is. He has grown incredibly as an actor over the course of the show.
Nah. Sam shot her out of spite. She was no threat to either him or Dean. Maybe to others, but not to them. And now all she'll do is find a new meat suit and some other poor innocent will be possessed. Sam is really getting dark.

Then I'm confused. I thought this Colt killed the demon, not just the human.

But that's not the Winchester way. Or wasn't, until this season. And as far back as Bloodlust Dean learned that all demons are not created equally evil, and Sam was the one to teach him.
Yeah, this particular Crossroads lady is gone.
(Wonder if the next one will be blonde? Redhead?)
But that's not the Winchester way.
Not disagreeing. Just pointing out that his motive was killing a demon (for spite), not a human who was unfortunately wrapped around the demon.

True. But since she's a subcontractor out of hell, it just means a new demon with a new suit.
