Yeah, I don't have anything against him not being particularly fond of an ex. Or scared of one.

"Depends on which ex" implied that he has more than one bitter ex out there. It hit my holier-than-thou button and I judged him harshly without any other evidence. /someone else's bitter ex

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the actual deal that Dean can't try to get out of the 1-year deal or Sam dies? Was there any real statement to the effect that Sam can't try to figure out a way to escape this predicament?
