Also, they are way prettier than the people on America's Funniest Home Videos. (Although I think the apex of gag reel humor is soap actors, who have to churn it out like it's acting boot camp, and thus their uncontrollable gigglefests are rare and precious and always a little strained with panic.)
I'm fascinated by the charater interaction and the setting.

Actually the pretty didn't keep me. And the scary scared me away at first. But the character interaction? That's where the show hooked me. The pretty is very, very pretty, true, but it's the characters and their interplay that own me.
The pretty *and* the scary reeled me in, because I love both, but the characters kept me.
I love gag reels. Because I adore the glimpse behind the scenes, and it always tickles me when everyone looks they're having the kind of good time I think they are.
I love the scary, because it's the type of scary that doesn't freak me out and keep me awake nights. It's the sit on the couch, shriek delightedly, silly horror movie sort of scary, which makes me feel all nostalgic.
Honestly, it's the character interaction that hooked me, too. The pretty is very pretty, but if all I wanted was pretty, I'd be watching OTH or something.

The silly horror movie is very much by design, and a source of a lot of the handwavium supply.
Though I confess to being more freaked by that than I used to be when I was younger, and that certain episodes (hi, Bloody Mary and Usual Suspects!) really give me the icy shudders.

I luuuurved Bloody Mary. I think I may have giggled and clapped my hands. Which was also my reaction to the haunted asylum episode.
What hooked me?
SAM: Hey, Dean? What I said earlier... about Mom and Dad, I'm sorry.

DEAN: Bitch.
I resisted SPN because, well, I wasn't looking for a show, and also I'm not a horror fan. But I watched and Oh! Dean! also it's the perfect way for me to watch horror films, because there's none of the gore or the stuff that freaks me out.
Wait, I haven't seen Usual Suspects yet, have I?
Nope! It has true horror movie creepy! Also, Linda Blair.
