Nathan Fillion is 1/2 inch taller than JA. And JP is the same height as Adam Baldwin. Somehow the gap in height between Jayne and Mal doesn't seem as much as between Sam and Dean. Why is that?

I think you are correct. And yet it still surprises me when I see JA away from JP, as in Blonde, and he is tall. It's like some weird reality bend.
