The Djinn's eyes coming out of the dark was great movie making. I jumped.
Supernatural 1: Saving People, Hunting Things - the Family Business
[NAFDA]. This is where we talk about the CW series Supernatural! Anything that's aired in the US (including promos) is fair game. No spoilers though -- if you post one by accident, an admin will delete it.
This ep hits even harder now that we know how things play out in AHBL1&2.

Jesus. And this happens just a little while before AHBL, yeah? At the time, I didn't realize what a nice set-up it was for the low self-esteem that would allow him to trade away his life for his brother's. He basically gave up his own happiness (illusion notwithstanding) to save lives, to be with his brother, to save his brother.
(Man, they laid on the emo eyeliner thick, didn't they? His emo is so glam...)
eta: oh, teh x-post...
And Dean holding the girl, "I got you, I got you," just kills me, because he knows she's the reason he was saved.
I just read the TWoP recap this afternoon, and was surprised at the interpretation that Dean's wish was to "get some rest". Still haven't been able to think deeply on that observation, and whether it holds.
I was also surprised to read the interpretation that Dean, deep down, hates his father's f***ing guts. But this is also the recapper who calls JDM's character "Shut Up Daddy". Still, interesting viewpoint, especially the first one. That the wish wasn't for his own happiness, nor was it for Sam's, but just that he could get some rest.
Anyone mind if we start W&P for Tall Tales at 10:05? I'm going to need a quick break for essentials.
Jesus. And this happens just a little while before AHBL, yeah?
I think AHBL made this more poignant for me. The first time I didn't realize the full power of this episode.
Must pee.
Break sounds good. Start and I will join in even a little later. Don't people know this is my uninteruptable Supernatural time?
A pause would be good.
"get some rest"
There's a bit of a "lay down your burdens" theme at the end of S2... Dean talking about being tired of hunting, extending through to him giving up the hunter's life permanently by giving up his whole life. I think there's more at work in this, but that's definitely a theme you could see.
hates his father's f***ing guts
I don't know that that's true. I mean, sure, maybe a little resentful that they have to give up everything to fight, that they're the ones who have to make the sacrifices to save others. But I also think Dean really believes in what he does, in the importance of saving people, not just out of familial obligations. After all, it was the impetus of all those other deaths that drove him out of the wish at all...
