Hivemind question: Sam and Dean are named for characters in On the Road. Is this simply Kripke's thing, or was it ever canon that John and Mary named them so for that reason?
It's never been mentioned on the show.
But it is useful in Lee and I's continuing argument.
And made me grab the book.
"With the coming of Dean Moriarty began the part of my life you could call my life on the road. Before that I'd often dreamed of going West..."
And should I even think about the kinda strangeness that implies then of Dean falling in love with Cassie. Narcissus much?

I'm going to have to read the book, aren't I?

Yes. But only so I don't mock you for your lit lapse.
The only part you need to know for *our* argument is that Dean Moriarty in the book is based on Neal Cassady. So Dean is Cass. Literally.
Yes. But only so I don't mock you for your lit lapse.
scoots over to sit with Lee in the lit lapse corner
Hmmm. Interesting. I can see Mary having read it, if not John. Although I don't know if she'd want to name her kids after them.
I should read it again. It's been YEARS.
We have a very pretty if underread corner.
Yes, but you fill our shared brain with vampire goodness. So I just figured I could take the Beat stuff. Lee has no excuse. It's a road trip you can read.
I could be tempted to get you Visions of Gerard though. Just to watch Pete's eyes roll. Or see if he's lurking here now.

I am pretty sure that was *all* Kripke. And should be.

HEY! I give you stuff to read.
