Very convincing. Makes me completely want to put myself under government control. Please take me to where you can make me unconscious and naked.

Because books.

At least you didn't post it in ... Tech?

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

At least you didn't post it in ... Tech?

That would only have been appropriate if her preferred parents were John Denver and Olivia NEWTONTRON.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

So, I’ve been feeling conflicted, and it’s the sort of conflicted that involves The Board, so let me bring the conflicted-ness to the group as a whole.

Many of you are familiar with the current news stories about TVTropes’ deletion of tropes involving the word “rape” to conform to Google’s AdSense requirements. The Mary Sue, in particular, quotes “Fast Eddie” on the subject, and comes away sounding at least somewhat conflicted on the issue.

I feel like I/we have information that is relevant to the conversation. I know that it’s a sore subject around here, and I wouldn’t bring it up except that this seems like a moment when it might really be heard.

I was thinking of sending a message to The Mary Sue writers, but realized that the only way I could, in good conscience, do so would be to ask that the information only be used “on background,” at which point, what could they possibly do with it? Now, the board is already name-checked on the io9 TVTropes origin story, so they could fairly easily end up here if given a nudge. But, well, that would be drama. And I am loathe to bring drama into our house if it’s not necessary.

I kind of think it might be.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

What is to be gained by sticking our oar in?

Woe to the fucking wicked.

Hmmm...gained? Probably nothing. It felt like the Right Thing To Do: Truth, Justice, and the Sunnydale Way, or whatever phrasing you prefer.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

It pisses me off that he's probably making a fuckload of money off that site, personally, but I'm not rational on the subject.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

I don't see the connection between this and what he did here. Aside from providing further evidence that he's a jerk, I don't see how we can add anything useful.

Because books.

Debet, do you mean to explain to the Mary Sue writers why he would have dismissed the whole issue so easily? I'm not sure you can actually link his behavior here with that, and otherwise I don't see what would be served by addressing it.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

More in the broader sense of, "Some people seem to be giving him the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps you should reconsider that decision, as he has demonstrated that he gives exactly no fucks about other people on at least one occasion."

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I'd be inclined not to bother unless it becomes more directly relevant. But I like the low-profile, low-drama.
