I think it would be helpful to have an end date on Goodbye thread, maybe by the end of February. That would give plenty of room to even Secret Santa Slackees. And if you can't get your present done by the end of February then don't sign up for it.
I haven't participated for a couple years because I knew I wouldn't be able to meet the deadline. And I had really enjoyed the times I did participate but it seemed irresponsible to accept a gift when I didn't know if I could reciprocate in a timely fashion.
I haven't signed up in a couple of years because I suck at deadlines.
I am setting up an elfster account and will happily organize the exchange. Would sign up to end 11/30 sound ok?
Not that I don't think you would do a fabulous job, msbelle, but didn't Nilly already happily volunteer if Dani doesn't want to do it?
I would suggest a three month timeframe for GoodRiddance, and also that at that time we throw out a call for pinch hitters for anyone that remains ungifted. Though in that case we'd want to hold the thread open longer - maybe another month?
Nilly should not feel bad.
As one of the giftless, I'll just say that this is absolutely the least of my worries right now. I am happy to just let it go and I have no objections to closing the 2008 thread without further ado.
Me, too. shit happens. i have no hard feelings and will cheerfully participate next year.
I do like the idea of a slacker deadline. I might participate if I knew something would remind me I really needed to finish the job.
I should clarify that my earlier comment was more about vague deadlines than deadlines themselves.
A vague deadline is nobody's friend either, I'd say. I know it's not mine, because I have the same issues as Kristin.
I like the idea of a set close date for the thread.
