Rethinking the structure and/or continued existence of the following bucket threads: Boxed Set, Cable Drama, Comedy, Procedurals, and Premium Cable.
As a follow-up, some counts:
Posts since 1/1:
Procedurals: 500
Cable Drama: 190
Comedy: 155
Premium Cable: 39
Posts in the last year:
Procedurals: 1753
Cable Drama: 1335
Comedy: 711
Premium Cable: 654
Based on that, I would be inclined to close all of them. Although I could see an argument for keeping procedurals since it’s theme-based, and the case-of-the-week structure might mean a different tolerance for spoilers, as with the reality thread.
As for Boxed Set, I guess in my ideal world, we would see what kind of discussion shows generate (and how much) before moving them there.
ETA: Moved to Voting Discussion
That's so odd, I just went to check that the voting thread was closed and, a second later, ita closed it.
I think the most promising suggestion to come out of the voting discussion was to have the tv slugs for bucket threads modified more frequently to show what's being discussed.
This does not have to be systematic but should probably be every 3 or 4 months to reflect the changing network/cable seasons and what 3-5 shows are likely to be dominant in that thread at that time.
Personally I think it would make the most sense to decide on the revision/update in-thread, as each thread's denizens are probably the best judge about what is discussed most often.
If people agree I will x-post the slugs and headers proposed below in each one:
Procedurals 1: Anything You Say Can and Will Be Used Against You.
Slug: Thread for discussion of procedural television shows, including, but not limited to, ?, ?, and ?. [NAFDA]
Header: This thread is for procedural TV, shows where the primary idea is to figure out the case.
Comedy 1: A Little Song, a Little Dance, a Little Seltzer Down Your Pants
Slug: Thread for discussion of comedy television shows, including, but not limited to, ?, ?, and ?. [NAFDA]
Header: This thread is for comedy TV, including network and cable shows. [NAFDA]
Premium Cable: The Cursing Costs Extra
Slug: Discussions of HBO and Showtime original programming including, but not limited to ?, ?, and ?. [NAFDA]
Header: A thread for the discussion of all HBO and Showtime original programming.
Cable Drama: Still Waiting for the Cable Guy to Show Up with the Thread Name...
Slug: Thread for the discussion of original cable drama, including, but not limited to ?, ?, ?. [NAFDA]
Header: Thread for the discussion of original cable drama--but not scifi/fantasy (that's Boxed Set!) or pay-to-play (that's Premium Cable!). Psychics, detectives, surgeons, and firemen welcome. [NAFDA]
Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own
Slug: Thread for discussion of non-fiction television, including, but not limited to, ?, ?, and ?.
Header: This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television, documentaries, and sundry. [NAFDA]
Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon
Slug: Discussions of sci-fi/fantasy shows we watch, including, but not limited to, ?, ?, and ?. May contain HoYay.
Header [to revise]: A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
It certainly doesn't hurt to keep the slugs up to date.
On another note, I would like to just have it recognized that we, the Buffistas, stopped talking of our own accord before the stop talking deadline. Hee.
The issue apparently wasn't as important as cilantro.
Well, in all fairness, it had been thoroughly debated in recent memory. I can't recall when we last had a good throwdown over cilantro.
Well, in all fairness, it had been thoroughly debated in recent memory.
And cilantro hasn't? Didn't we just do a poll?
Tempest in a teacup compared to the original brouhaha.
What is the point of the x-posting? I think we've pretty much BS consensed on updating thread headers a few times a year to indicate current shows under discussion. That will probably require an occasional reminder in thread (or really, just in B-craxy) to talk about what to add/delete. I'm not sure what else we need to do here.
