What you did to me was unbelievable, Connor. But then I got stuck in a hell dimension by my girlfriend one time for a hundred years, so three months under the ocean actually gave me perspective. Kind of a M.C. Escher perspective, but I did get time to think.

Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Hey. New board.

I just read that Fox has green lit the 3rd Narnia film: Voyage of the Dawntreader.

Here's hoping it doesn't annoy me as much as Caspian did.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

Love The Quiet Man. As long as I don't analyze it too much.

Oh, I know it's not Hawks, but it is John Wayne.

It's hard to imagine Maureen O'Hara playing a character with much patience for heavy sexism.

Well, she thinks Wayne's not a real man unless he beats people up. So they both get to be equally sexist. But yeah, the first time I saw it I kept going, "Er, is this supposed to remind me of Secretary? Because, wow."

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Total Film magazine's Watchmen article. Silk Spectre gets short shrift in her character bio.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Skipping 3000+ posts to post this (has it been posted already? If so I'll apologize post hoc.)

Sleestaks! T-Rex! The Super Bowl teaser trailer for Land of the Lost

I'm so gonna see this! (Hopefully seeing Sleestaks on the big screen won't make me soil myself.)

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Hopefully seeing Sleestaks on the big screen won't make me soil myself.

I just hope they give Bill Lambeer a cameo. The fucking goon.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Sw Australia last night, finally. Although it was kinda two movies smashed into one too-long one, I liked it. Jackman is good and I love Baz's big, showy, melodramatic style. You just don't see a lot of that unselfconscious quest to entertain in movies anymore. Nicole Kidman's giant unmoving forehead is rather ditracting, but I was riveted by the beautiful little boy in most of her scenes, so was able to avert my eyes.

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

I saw Benjamin Buttons last night and have very mixed feelings. On the one hand, I sobbed nonstop during the last 20 minutes or so. (Pretty much the entire Benjamin as a senile old man in a child's body sequence. The line about watching him forget how to walk just broke me in half. ) On the other hand, if I step back a bit and actually think about it, the script has all the same annoying triteness that Forrest Gump did. (I only found out afterwards that it's the same screenwriter.) And I really hated the Katrina frame. All Fincher had to do was not name the fucking hurricane and it would have been fine. But making it Katrina was distracting and inappropriate at best, and borderline offensive at worst.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

MSU did a sneak preview of "Coraline" this weekend. The MSU bakery made these: [link]

Those who have seen it - is it too dark for Em, do you think? She has watched Spiderman 1 and 2 and Batman Begins with no problem.

(This post might show what a bad parent I am in the what movies I allow my kid to see realm.)
