Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

For Frankenbuddha, an interview with Jessica Harper about shooting Suspiria.

Bless you, Hec. I've always loved her too, though she's occasionally confusable with both Karen Allen (I was SURE that was her in MINORITY REPORT until I saw the credits) and sometimes Debra Winger (I've also heard some folks confuse her with Margo Kidder, but she was alway seriously recognizable as herself to me - probably a result of seeing SISTERS at too young an age).

Interesting trivia note - Sissy Spacek wanted to try out for the role Jessica Harper played in PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE, but she didn't get an audition because they didn't think she could sing. HA!

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

All told, I think Coal Miner's Daughter might have been the wiser choice to debut that particular talent. I suspect she wouldn't have won an Oscar for Phantom of the Paradise.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

No one's seen The Last Legion yet? I'm curious...

Ever fired your gun in the air and yelled, 'Aaaaaaah?'

More Trek movie casting news.

It looked like 300 done in the style of A Knight's Tale to me. The cred Colin Firth banked up with me from Apartment Zero has long since been used up on Rene Zelwiger's behalf.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

But he's AWESOME in the first Bridget Jones movie. Also very good going dark in Where the Truth Lies, although it sucked as a film.

What Robin said. But I'm still not going to see The Last Legion. I learned my lesson with Clive Owen and King Arthur.

Speaking of Clive, my celebrity boyfriend, have people seen this article in Details?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I think I need a cigarette.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

Fuck, that was a good interview. You totally know the interviewer has it bad for Owen, which would've usually irritated me, except I'm all, "yes!" because I'm *right there* with her.

“I was haunted for months by the scene in Gosford Park when Kelly McDonald visits him in his room and he’s just lounging on the bed,” says Cate Blanchett, with whom Owen stars as Sir Walter Raleigh in The Golden Age, the sequel to Elizabeth

Ohhh, yeah. That scene. And the kiss later on, which was one of the hottest things I've ever seen on film.
