Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Danger is my middle name, only I spell it R. u. t. h. - Tina Belcher.

Speaking of WETA, I've been so desperate for interesting TV that I have been watching an animated show called Jane and the Dragon. It is CGI animation produced by WETA, and it is a little distracting that all the human characters have Gollum/Smeagol eyes!

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I've come across that show sometimes, and it freaks me out. I didn't know it was done by WETA. Everyone looks so weird!

aka "The artist formerly known as Corwood Industries."

Just want to mention that IFC is running the extremely rare and classic Texas indie Last Night At The Alamo tonight. Apparently this is the movie that inspired Robert Redford to found the Sundance Film Festival, for good or for ill.

Everyone looks so weird!

Agreed. It's obviously advanced animation, but it's weird. I think I like my animation to look like animation. I like Jacob Two-Two.

OK, I *finally* got to see The Dark Knight (in no small part because my DH is in Baghdad so I don't have to compromise with anyone about viewing options).

Dude. That is one tough movie. Rather than being a superficial comic book movie, they actually went to some interesting moral and ethical places.

Also, in any other situation, everybody would be talking about how Gary Oldman's performance was so amazing, and he was just fully absolutely Jim Gordon. But Ledger overshadowed everything else.

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

We've been on kind of a Peter Sellers kick lately and watched Being There last night. I think I kind of loved it. The short tirade that Louise the maid goes on mid-movie had me dying.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

It's certainly been talked about here, both about TDK and Batman (heh, I accidentally type Bartman) Begins (I know ita was a big fan).

That was one of those bits of casting that had me going "Oooo-kay?" when it was first announced, but dear dog he's given it everything you'd want for Jim Gordon and more.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Between Prick Up Your Ears, Romeo Is Bleeding, True Romance, and Dracula, I was fairly confident that Oldman's range encompasses just about anything ever conceived by a screenwriter.
