I think I had forgotten that John Cho was cast as Sulu - I can tell right now that's going to be the biggest hurdle in immersing myself in the movie. I'm going to keep thinking to myself, "Harold and Checkov Go to White Castle."

Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Someone not William Shatner playing Kirk? I have more problems with that than them screwing over Eowyn.
They've made the whole cast younger. I wasn't sure they did a good job casting anyone besides Spock but after viewing those EW pics (especially Kirk in the captain's chair) I'm starting to have a wee bit of hope.
I don't know if it's just his name, or just me being crazy, but Chris Pine makes me think of Captain Pike, not Captain Kirk.
(In fact, it's probably the name, which is dumb, but... there you go.)
That picture of young Spock and young Kirk made me think: Star Trek on the CW.
The picture of Spock choking someone made me think: Oh look, Sylar! With pointy ears!
Every part of J.J. Abrams Presents: Trek Babies! sounds like a stand-up comedy routine to me. "There've been all these franchise reboots lately. Can you imagine if they tried to that with Star Trek? Ha! It'd probably be like...[insert EW article]."
Also, if they're going to be rewriting canon and whatever else, why, WHY, are they wearing pajamas and mini-skirts? Of all things from the original show, that's the one element you feel is essential to Star Trek? Really?
Plus, at heart, Abrams is still more of a Star Wars guy. ''All my smart friends liked Star Trek,'' he says. ''I preferred a more visceral experience.''
OK, not on my list of stuff to see. Star Wars is OK in it's place, but its place is NOT THE FREAKIN STAR TREK UNIVERSE.
I was putting in A Knight's Tale just now and I thought to myself that it's a 2 AM movie. It's the sort of movie I put in (at 1:40 in this case) when I'm not tired, often drunk (as is the case right now) and in the mood for a certain kind of flick. Another one is Shanghai Noon. Princess Bride is a third.
I can't figure out what these three movies have in common. Is it the champagne or am I on to something? Do you have any 2 AM movies?
