Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Hey. New board.

Movies Without Pity saw a whole lot of footage from Watchmen and then recapped it for all to see.

I'm not reading, but the little bit of skimming for buzz I did implied that they were pretty impressed.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

they already had a surcharge didn't they?

I didn't before now, and hadn't heard anyone mention one -- it could be that there was already a surcharge on some accounts but not others (different account levels, new accounts, something like that?)

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

We used to watch Repo Man followed by Liquid Sky. The shrimp thing carries over.

aka "The artist formerly known as Corwood Industries."

Hey David! Somehow I missed your post on the other day.

As the Freshman makes the perfect third part after Godfathers 1 and 2.

So true.

I wonder what other such double bills there are. Is Barton Fink improved when seen after a Wallace Beery wrestling pic?

We once combined Okie Noodling and Deliverance. Worked as well as a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, I think.

Dude! Thanks for the warning on Cleo From 9 to 5. I want to see that.

Good deal!

On The Haunting you neglect to mention (a) the coolness of Claire Bloom's sapphic sexy psychic, and (b) that she was lovers with Philip Roth for a long time (and then briefly married him). Also, if you've never seen her in James Joyce's Women then you should, because her performance of Molly Bloom's soliloquy at the end of Ulysses is AWESOME.

I've never seen that! That's a must.

Also, you neglected to point out that the car from Vanishing Point was the iconic car Tim Minear used in Drive. Well, okay, nobody's really going to get that one but us.

I thought about saying something, but then the nobody-but-us factor hit me.

I do believe in killing the messenger, you know why? Because it sends a message. ~ Damon Salvatore

new Twilight trailer, which actually makes it look like a movie people who haven't read the books might want to see.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

It does! It looks kind of neat in that vampire movie kind of way. If I didn't know what it was, I may have been vaguely interested.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Just saw RocknRolla, which I thoroughly enjoyed. If you like Ritchie's stuff, you will enjoy this one. Gerard Butler being yummy, Idris Elba and Tom Wilkinson being brilliant, Thandie Newton being cool and gorgeous and lots of visual and narrative pizzazz. Hec should see it just for the AWESOME soundtrack. It's a total confection, but a fun one.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

I finally watched Redbelt. I'll have to watch House of Games again to be sure but this might be my favorite Mamet. It's brilliant in that Mamet-y way where people's lives intersect in ways they fail to forsee and holy boy is Chiwetel Ejiofor looking amazing. I wish I had Kinky Boots at home for a mind-blowing double feature.
