Am I supposed to be changing my clothes a lot? Is that the helpful thing to do?

Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Danger is my middle name, only I spell it R. u. t. h. - Tina Belcher.

My favorite Mamet outside the theatre is The Verdict. Mamet writes silence better than anyone!

brillig

The previews for "Eagle Eye" (the one with the woman's voice on all the phones) amuse me. As if technical systems would be that reliable.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Yeah, it's kind of like the computer hoodoo from that internet killer movie with Diane Lane last year where the guy was able to take over her car remotely. "OMG! The call is coming from inside your glove compartment!"

I may be able to buy flawless worldwide realtime computer tracking if the setting involves the supercomputers from The Matrix, but in the real world AT&T can't figure out that I moved last November despite me calling to inform them multiple times.

Hey. New board.

The Americans and the French create great cinema because they were the two countries that led the invention of cinema.

England has great theater because it's the country that invented modern theater.

Agreed. And America (specifically, New York) has great musical theater for much the same reason (though the British have contributed some success in that field too).

Saw Burn After Reading last night (courtesy of juliana). It's certainly not the best Coen brothers ever, but it is laugh-out-loud funny.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

Though Brad Pitt's character really only worked because it was Brad Pitt. Still loved him though.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

It's certainly not the best Coen brothers ever, but it is laugh-out-loud funny.

I'm so glad to hear this -- I'm not expecting best ever, but I've been looking forward to a new funny Coen. And then the reviews I've seen have been pretty meh. I'll happily take laugh-out-loud funny without expecting too much more.
