I hear the Elfman movie themes in early Oingo Boingo.
The song "Try to Believe" is pretty much the basis for the entire "Midnight Run" soundtrack
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

The Balcony is Closed - Roger Ebert talks about the end of the Ebert & Roeper Show (and it's beginnings.)
When talking about genres, what would be the rationale for capitalizing westerns, and not musicals, science fiction, etc.
"West" is a geographical area? The same reason you capitalize "The Old West."
Maybe failing to capitalize Western could get you shot.
In related news, I was at Fisherman's Wharf yesterday and heard the theme from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, played on a South American flute.
I finally watched Redbelt last night. Good damn movie. I think it may have replaced Glengarry Glen Ross as my favorite Mamet movie.
Sean,
what did you like so much about the movie? I hated it. I really did.
The Museum of the Moving Image has a cool website: Moving Image Source.
Lots to explore there Including a piece on The Wire.
Oooh, Corwood would like this article, it opens with a comparison of the Wire with Straw Dogs.
Bonus: They break down each season of The Wire's title sequence.
Tivo Alert: TCM is showing the rarely screened Here We Go 'Round the Mulberry Bush (Sept. 12) - a movie best known for its Spencer Davis soundtrack, but favored by me because it features Angela Scoular as the most blithe and madcap mod girl ever.
Not a great movie but enjoyable, particularly if you like the era.
Note to Aimee: it also features Judy Geeson (in a nude scene), aka the Mean British Neighbor from Mad About You.
