hee! I see a climactic scene where Helena Bonham Carter and Keira Knightley (in Victorian dress) have a fistfight in a refinery.
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

And then they both explode?
And then they both explode?
As the camera pans back and the music (a string quartet) swells.
I'm waiting and waiting and the image won't come up but there is supposed to be a new image from HPB here.
Also, some theory about the movie being delayed while Daniel Radcliffe gets naked on Broadway.
It loaded as what looks like a Christmas scene, sumi.
I just watched Best in Show again. I want to have a mind meld with Christopher Guest. Spicy, spicy, twisted brains.
I finally got around to seeing The Dark Knight tonight. Ledger was as electric as everyone said, but I was left feeling like Bale was making guest appearances in a movie when he was its nominal lead. Despite its length I never felt tired, or bored, but I did come out of it feeling vaguely unsatisfied and wishing Bale, Caine, and Freeman had shot another movie together during all the downtime they must have spent waiting around on the set of this one.
Just got back from seeing Roman de Gare. Very twisty, turny plot.
Matt, I sort of agree with you.
I do actually feel a little bad for Bale; when Begins came out there was all the stupid TomKat stuff taking over the spotlight, and now with Dark Knight, it's Ledger's last great role. It's unfortunate.

I saw THE FALL yesterday. Absolutely stunning to look at, and both Lee Pace and the little girl were amazing, but somehow it just didn't come together. Definitely in the BIG FISH / BARON MUNCHAUSEN school, though way more downbeat than either. The girl who played Alexandria brought a touch of PAN'S LABYRINTH to it as well, though it's nowhere near that harsh in it's real world sections.
I think what didn't work was the that the fantasy sequences, gorgeous though they were to watch, didn't draw me in. I think that may have been deliberate to a certain extent so the effect of what Roy does to the story's arc isn't too harsh, but I think it would have been a more effective film if what happens at the end of the story felt the way to the audience the way it did to the girl. Still, I think it's well worth a rental when it comes out on DVD next week.
And I saw it in the PERFECT theater. It doubles as the theater for a magic troupe, and it has this amazing old time feel to it: [link] Unfortunately, their web site doesn't really have any good pictures of the theater itself. They could use a better sound system, and the seats can be a bit dodgy, but it just feels amazing to see something there.
