Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
the '90s are thick with them. The most recent one I can think of so far is Just Visiting (Les Visiteurs) but that's 2001. German doesn't count, huh? (Mostly Martha) I'll keep thinking.
I just have a list of remakes in this book (pubbing 1/2009) that ends with Taxi (2004) and I was looking for a new one to add. I know there was talk of The Strangers being a remake but I can't get confirmation on that.
looky what I found imdb keyword search: remake of French film. Looks like there's one in 2007.
There's talk of "Anthony Zimmer", "36 Quai", and "Cache" being remade, but none are in production yet.
Yeah, Scrappy, that was pretty bad. Sorry, Megan, I don't know much about French films.
Correction, "36" is in pre-production.
"Taxi" (the Queen Latifah/Jimmy Fallon movie) was a remake of a French film?? Huh.
The 2007 is a Filipino movie - did you need American ones, megan?
According to the Wikipedia page for The Strangers, it is similar in plot to the French film, Ils but was separately inspired.
Well, there is going to be a sort-of sequel to "Paris, je t'aime" called "I Love You, New York," but that's not really going to be a remake as a continuation of the theme.
"Taxi" (the Queen Latifah/Jimmy Fallon movie) was a remake of a French film?? Huh.
Shockingly, it was called Taxi. It was a huge hit in France and there was at least 1 sequel ( Taxi 2, natch). Produced by Luc Besson.
